Motorola – Apple

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

There had been rumours about Apple teaming up with Motorola to come up with a iTunes based cell phone.
Earlier in June/July 2004 Motorola and Apple announced some kind of integration between Motorola phones and Apple iTunes software. Recently the news is hot in the rumourmills about the launch of this phone in September first week.
Apple has announced a major news event on 7th September in San Francisco, and has confirmed that this will be related to music.

Personally I havent liked any of the Motorola phones so far, but at the same time Apple is known for intutive designs in their products and it would be worth waiting for to see what could Apple do with Motorola phones? Would it drive Motorola to re-think on their shell designs? Would the host OS be much more sleeker and user friendly?

Lets wait and watch on 7th Sept !

I am soooo having issues with Technorati since last night. I am not able to see my account or watchlist after I log in. Once I hit the signin button, all I see is a blank page.
But if I browse to http://www.technorati.com/ping, I can see the page, but if I click on Account or Watchlist, I see nothing. Already filed 2 support requests, no reply yet.
Anyone knows about this, please comment here…

Google Mobile Services…

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Recently Russ posted a thought that he had in mind about doing a small project about universal identity service.
After reading that I had an extension on that idea and started thinking about a service for the consumers to get easy access to their passwords and other sensitive identity related data. We have seen tools like Gator and numerous other vault softwares that store your identity data on a local storage. Why not come up with a online service where users can store their identity data and thus have a easy access from any computer (unlike Gator).
Today after reading this post as I was going through the section where Google mentions some upcoming Mobile services, I kinda connected both the ideas and thought what could be done if we can link the online identity recovery system with a users cell phone? Users register online and use a client interface to store their identity data in a usual client-server mechanism. But when they are on a public PC where they dont have access to the client component, they can get the identity data via their cell phones. It could be something as simple as what Google mentions: password recovery system.
For the moment I am waiting on this one and see what Google has in mind from mobile point of view, now they have started accumulating cell numbers of US consumers.

Not that this is correct reporting for IE, to report Russ’s site as a phishing site, I am not sure why it did that. since first installing the beta, I have reported this to be a non phishing site, but it reported the site as a phishing site yet again today.
I hope IE7 team is listening and doing something about this when IE7 finally comes out.
And Russ, dont worry, I am reporting it again as a safe site (except for high does of ideas!)

Database compare tools.

Wednesday, August 10th, 2005

How many of us have worked with upgrading a database schema from version ‘y’ to version ‘x’ for an application? Most of us who have worked on that, would have feared ‘are my upgrade scripts correct?’ ‘do they match the schema if I create a fresh schema for x version?’
We are working on such a tool, that you could run against 2 schemas, and see the differences. The tool would take a source schema as a reference point, and compare the objects against the target schema. You would have options to do a deep comparisions like data compare in addition to regular schema comparision, where only table schema is compared.
Tool would allow you to work with MS SQL Server, Oracle and MS Access.

Yahoo – Konfabulator

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Update: Yahoo launched Y! Go today at CES and this is where Konfabulator ended, which was a question in my earlier post here.

Talking with a friend of mine, we asked ourselved why did Yahoo buy Konfabulator? Moreover the premium service was dropped and everything is now offered for free. Whats in it for Yahoo…? Where would Yahoo use this product? Are there any integration plans for Konfabulator in existing Yahoo products? Maybe Yahoo messenger? now that would be interesting to see, how konfabulator widgets would integrate into YIM.

We have to wait and see on this one.

j2me exception…

Sunday, August 7th, 2005

i was writing a small j2me app, making httpconnections to a real IP. initial tests were running good when I started getting ioexceptions complaining that ‘maximum number of connections have exceeded’. I realised i was not closing the httpconnection and the inputstreamreader. i altered my code to do that, cleaned the project and ran again after compiling. surprisingly i am still getting the same exception in j2me wireless toolkit.
what else do i have to do? i have cleaned everything, and am closing my httpconnections and inputstreamreaders. but now even on first attempt i get the exception…

any pointers anyone?
