UPDATE: It seems that Google really heard us all, and has removed the Bollywood related content from the Google Video servers. I cannot seem to find any new movie lately.

Does Google care about it? Bollywood is the informal name given to Indian Cinema. By the number of movies produced in a year, its way ahead of Hollywood. There are interesting comparisons with Hollywood here.

Bollywood has been trying harder to come down upon copyright infringements, but now since the advent of P2P sharing clients like BitTorrent and others, it has become harder to contain this problem.

Now with the advent of Google Video, which offers latest and greatest in sharing your videos, and letting others search the database (who can search better than Google !), the illegal sharing of these movies is riding higher. A simple search for a latest Bollywood flick produced these results where you can see the whole movie (or atleast the second half of it).

I am sure if any of the Hollywood flicks would be uploaded, Google might remove the content immediately, citing legal issues with the Hollywood $tudio$. On the other hand resource stranded Bollywood is left out of the legalities (it seems like that) and everything is being uploaded without Google looking into the content.

Not denying that these Bollywood flicks werent available anywhere else, but what Google has just done is offered these flicks as an easier search.
If anyone of the Bollywood distributors are reading this, they will for sure know how much this might affect their distributions, especially overseas market like UK, US & Canada, where High Speed internet is cheap and travelling to the Cineplex is much more than sitting at home and watching the movies on the LCD’s courtsey Google !
